As Trump takes office, here are 5 thoughts running through my mind since election night.

As always, I’m thinking about how your small businesses can increase federal sales (which will be coming). But you need to be prepared to maximize your wins.

Here are my thoughts:

1. GSA Schedule Program growth

GSA sales will see a dramatic increase in 2025, following a massive 9.3% boost in 2024 (book an appointment now to get started: https://www.gsascheduleservices.com/appointment-booking/). The GSA Schedule program is a top choice for government buyers, and I think Elon Musk would agree that it needs to be utilized more.

2. Vendors will thrive with a Smaller Government

A smaller government will lead to more reliance on private-sector solutions. As the government shrinks under Trump, you’ll have opportunities to supply services to agencies and fill the gaps. I see a huge demand for staffing and acquisition services, and IT spending through GSA will grow.

3. Cybersecurity and Defense Capabilities

With national security a top priority, if you’re on the GSA Schedule for SIN 54151HACS, you’ll see significant growth. If you’re not in cybersecurity, I recommend showcasing that your business follows the government’s cybersecurity guidelines. This selling point is becoming more important.

4. Securing the borders and deportation

Industries related to handling social cases for deportees and supporting the Border Patrol will see a large increase in demand.

5. Government Buying patterns will change with Tariffs

Over the next 2 years, emphasize “Made in America.” Position your company’s U.S.-based services or products as a unique selling point.

Now is the time to get into the GSA program and lean into government contracting.
